While in Newburgh, we did not get any snow for the season, but it was VERY cold, so we took a morning to go and jump and the trampoline park to get out a bit. Ironically, we did have to drive home in the snow, and Micah had to help shovel us out the next morning!
On December 23rd we headed to Newburgh to spend the holidays with the Rodgers' family. All the aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents would be making an appearance, so we were really excited to get to see everyone! With Matt's schedule, it had been awhile. By Christmas Eve, almost everyone was in town and we decorated cookies, played with the croaking frogs, and visited. Christmas morning we got to open stockings and presents together, and of course start to enjoy playing with all of the gifts. Brotherly competition was in full blast as Micah and Ezra competed in basketball, and later in the week, The Very Hungry Hippo Game. Great Grandpa Woods came down for a couple of days too and helped Matt and I with some late night puzzles. It was so nice to just be able to relax! Unfortunately, Matt got sick part way through the week (after all his siblings had been sick), so he slept a lot and didn't get to enjoy as much family time as we had hoped. Getting the boys to smile and look was an adventure, haha!

Matt was lucky enough to get a 9 days off for the holidays (December 22-30) so we decided to travel to see the Rodgers sides of the family for Christmas. Before heading to Newburgh we had our own mini celebration at home and gave the boys their big presents from us! They also got to open some holiday mail from great grandparents... money to go shopping! While Micah doesn't really fully understand money, he thought the card was a special book that he carried around asking it to be read to him. So cute! Micah and I then spent a day baking and decorating Christmas cookies to take with us. I'm pretty sure getting to taste test them was Micah's favorite part :) Finally, on Friday December 22 we took the boys to Carillon Historical Park's Christmas village after dark and walked around looking at the lights, eating delicious donuts, learning a bit about history (especially trains and airplanes), watching a puppet show, and the big highlight of the night: riding on the Christmas train! It was basically a large scale model train that ran a loop around the end of the park through Christmas light tunnels. We had to hold on tight but it was so much fun! They had a whole transportation building and the really wonderful employees there ran the steam train an extra time just for Micah to watch it work. Then in the aviation building we got to see the actual airplane that the Wright brothers first got to truly fly! A close second in excitement for Micah was the puppet show. He had never seen one before and got really excited watching it unfold. We'll definitely be back again next year!
I didn't quite get it up on the last post, but Ezra is now 10 months old, and has a... strong personality. He WILL let you know if he doesn't like something, anything, with a very loud screech that doesn't stop until he gets what he wants or you find a satisfactory alternative (or occasionally he just wears himself out so much and falls asleep). He also has developed some picky eating habits recently which have resulted in some loud meals due to his displeasure at being served such disgusting food, haha. On a more fun note, he has started to stand on his own for stretches of time and learned another new word, "Grandad" when my parents came to visit last weekend.
Micah has also had his moments the last couple of weeks. He has all but given up napping and is getting increasingly more difficult to keep in bed during "rest time" which has made for a grouchy mom (and a grouchy Micah by the time dinner roles around and he's tired). His favorite word at the moment is "no" whether the question is a yes or no question or not. The answer is always "no" (unless you're offering him a treat, then the answer will swing to a "yes"). On the bright side, Micah has decided he likes helping around the house again (for a while he wasn't much interested), so this week he has been folding napkins and prefolds and matching the socks, washing dishes, and helping me measure and chop up food for meals. Ezra got to experience his first snow last week, which he didn't much care for it would seem since he cried any time I set him down in it. Micah, on the other hand, LOVED it and didn't want to come in. When we took him hiking with Nana and Grandad he liked to hike through any leftover patches he could find. The boys have also been loving the Christmas season traditions and look forward to our advent story and activities each evening before bed. December is here! My favorite month because of all of the family time, celebration, and magic of the season! We set the tree up first thing on December first. The boys had a blast decorating (mainly Micah who could really hang ornaments this year). Grandma came to visit for a couple of days too and and brought a fun project for her and Micah to tackle while Ezra napped: the Gingerbread House! They had such a good time working together to make the perfect house and it turned out so cute! We've also been hitting up the area parks on warm days to hike and play on the playgrounds just to change up the scenery of being home since we are stuck inside a lot more now that it has gotten cold. Fortunately, we were able to change things up a bit at home too by picking up a train table that a local mom was giving away for free and fixing it up a bit. It's given Micah a designated area out of the playroom to be able to play with trains and hopefully make it easier for us to keep Ezra away from the tracks!
Meanwhile the boys have been busy growing and changing like always. Ezra has grown his vocabulary to include "all done" and is busy crawling and cruising the furniture. Oh, and destroying... EVERYTHING. He loves to go from room to room pulling things off shelves, taking apart train tracks, and throwing play food. He's hilarious and adorable doing it, but man does it make for a lot more clean up work! It also means that he can interrupt Micah who used to be pretty good at playing independently... and now isn't so much because Ezra wants what he has. Of course it goes both ways, because now that Ezra can also get things out on his own, Micah decides he wants whatever Ezra gets out too. It's. Exhausting. Micah, when not playing with Ezra, enjoys climbing to extreme heights these days, both in the house and on the playground. He also likes to jump from high places, and most recently, slide head first down slides, ladders, and off of couches. Micah is also a great helper with Ezra and likes to mimic my words and actions to keep Ezra out of trouble or to "boss" Ezra around a bit, haha. Overall though, they have a really good time together and take care of each other most of all. |
