The kids did so well for the trip (Matt drove us all night while everyone slept) and we had so much fun seeing everyone!
Matt has to work Thanksgiving this year, but he got 9 days off the week before Thanksgiving, so we decided to roadtrip the kids to Newburgh for a week of fun and early celebration with the Rodgers'. There were lots of games... LOTS of games (Micah is becoming obsessed with board games)... walks, bike rides, playground time, and fun activities with Grandma to be had all week. We were lucky that Meredith was able to come with Spencer for a couple of days too so that we could celebrate Christmas with almost everyone as well. We even got to do some fun family games with the grown-ups after the kids went to bed. Matt and I have become a bit obsessed with board games ourselves, so it's fun to have others to play with.

The first half of November brought some new firsts for our family here in Pueblo. With Grandad's expertise, he built a climbing tower for our backyard and put up a swing for both the boys and one for Ruth. I may have been more excited than the boys simply to have something for them to play on outside to get them out of the house, lol. The boys had a lot of fun helping Grandad and watching him construct our tower; Micah especially spent most of his time out in the backyard with Grandad. And once it was built... I could barely get the boys in the house for meals. They spent 6 hours in our backyard one day (divided into a few chunks of time because I made them come in to at least eat; too cold to eat outside!) playing construction and running around with a lantern after dark, lol. It's so nice to have brothers who play so well together! After construction was complete in the backyard, we explored a couple of new places in the area. One day we went to Aiken Canyon and hiked along a dry creek bed up to some red rock. Micah loved the dirt and Ezra refused to walk a step and got carried the whole hike, lol. Another day we visited the Pueblo Air Museum located on the edge of town by the airport. It was surprisingly big with 2 hangers full of airplanes, helicopters, and vehicles used in previous wars by our country. You could climb into a fair number of them, so we had fun doing that. There was quite a large exhibit outside too, but with temperatures below freezing, we decided to save that for a warmer day!
While we had Nana and her camera here, we decided to spend Saturday morning at a pumpkin patch to get our fall decorations and take some fall pictures! We had fun choosing some large pumpkins, walking the corn maze, taking a wagon ride, playing on the slide, and of course squeezing in a few pictures. Saturday afternoon we went to the old Train Depot here in Pueblo for a train ride on an old, restored caboose. That was pretty cool! After looking at all of our pumpkin patch pictures, Nana and I decided to try to get better pictures of the kids, so we had mini photo sessions both inside and outside our house on Sunday. The kids were good sports and we had fun getting some good pictures (for a 4, 2, and 3 month old at least!). We were glad we took advantage of the nice weekend weather, because the week of Halloween brought snow! The boys helped shovel and played in it before retreating inside for marble run play and pumpkin decorating. On Halloween we handed out candy to a lot of trick or treaters, despite the freezing temperatures and snow. The boys had a blast looking at everyone's costumes and sampling the candy.
Ruth also turned 3 months old the day before Halloween. She has started rolling over occasionally, loves to laugh and smile, and loves her big brothers. Her big brothers love to dote on her more than anything (especially Micah) and she is well loved (sometimes too well loved, lol) every day. She's also a very good sport about going out in all weather, napping on the go, and tolerating lots of noise (though she startles easily, she makes a quick recovery... usually). She especially loves to just take all the action in. We think she'll learn quickly! |
