This week our big boy turned 6 weeks old! Conveniently enough, his Aunt Meredith also graduated from high school this week, so we went down to Newburgh to celebrate. This was Micah's first long trip in the car - 7 hours of driving - and he did great! Both there and back he slept most of the time, just waking up for feedings, diaper changes, and to play a little in the car seat. While there, Micah got to meet LOTS of people for the first time, including aunts and uncles, cousins, family friends, great-aunts and uncles, and great-grandparents. He was passed around all weekend and handled it pretty well. Everyone was very excited to see him; I think he took advantage of the audience and showed off his smiles, head control, and ability to roll over. Of course, he also got pretty tuckered out and slept hard at night after all the excitement! Nana even did a photoshoot with him!

We're having trouble believing how big our "little" boy has gotten! Matt and I comment every day how big his hands and feet are getting, how tall he is... you get the picture. The time has just gone so fast. It doesn't help that he acts so much older than he is too. Despite being 5 weeks old, he rolls over all the time (always from belly to back), tries to crawl continuously (and manages to move a few inches and rotate himself 90 degrees on the carpet), practices standing when he can get help, and loves to imitate faces made by Matt and I (especially smiles). And his preferences are showing through too! He loves to be clean, so bath time, diaper changes, and changing his clothes are all super fun and earn the bearer of these events large smiles (on the flip side he will let anyone who lets him get too dirty know with loud screams). He loves motion, so being bounced or moved up and down always calms him down. He also enjoys music, listening to books before bed, looking in the mirror, and staying cool. Being too hot results in a loud meltdown of protest - as demonstrated on several occasions this week when around 80 degrees (I don't think he'd survive anything warmer the way he acts like he is going to melt). I'm also super excited because Micah will now put himself to sleep when laid down drowsy at bedtime and after his nighttime feedings, resulting in more sleep for mom who doesn't have to rock him to sleep after each feeding! Despite being very busy with growing, Micah has been able to keep a very busy social schedule with Matt and I too. In fact, he's quite the trooper at tagging along with whatever we have going on. This past weekend, we had a friend come up to visit, and Micah went out to eat a couple of times with us, learned to play Risk, and watched a game of disc golf. Then many of our friends up here graduated and we have been celebrating with them a few last times before they move to their new residency locations. Micah especially seems to enjoy being outside in the warm weather with our friends, as long as there is a cool breeze and some shade of course. Finally he came to Bible Study with us and stayed awake the whole time - so many new things to look at! He is definitely a curious little guy! Our little family has officially been on our own for a whole week. No friends or family staying with us, just the 3 of us adjusting to our new family routine. And I think we've adjusted quite well. Micah and I hang out either at home or run errands during the day. Then in the evening when Matt comes home, Micah and Dad have their boy time while Mom gets to do all the things she didn't get done with a baby during the day. Micah has been really good about getting in his own routine for sleep, and sleeps in fairly predictable 3-4 hour chunks during the night - though he does occasionally try to socialize at 4 AM, and I have to remind him that it is time to SLEEP. While we may not have family or friends staying with us, we have spent a lot of time with friends this week - grilling, pizza and game night, visits to the park, and just hang-out nights. We had a couple of 80 degree days that finally brought out the cute short outfits I have for Micah to wear... though the 50 degree weather came back quickly. I also got to celebrate my first Mother's Day as a mother. My boys made it very special. We took Micah to church for the first time, went out to lunch and frozen yogurt, and then Matt made me dinner at home. Micah seemed to know he was supposed to be extra nice to me, because he slept through church and the lunch out (so it was like a grown-up date!) and he hung out very contentedly for Matt and I's dinner at home. Finally, Micah turned a month old this week! That means we got to go for his 1 month check-up and his Hepatitis B shot. Our "little" guy is growing at a very quick rate! In the last 2 weeks since his previous appointment he gained over 2 pounds and grew over an inch! He is now 10 pounds 6 ounces, 22.75 inches long, and has a head circumference of 37 cm. That puts him the in the 60th percentile for weight, 92nd for height, and 36th for head circumference. I guess this explains why I had to pack up all his newborn outfits this week... and why he suddenly fits in his cloth diapers! That's right, he's officially a cloth diaper baby, and loving them! I just can't believe how quickly my little boy is growing!
The Rodgers' family had a busy week! Grandma Rodgers spent part of the time with us - meaning I had more time to actually get things done while her and Micah bonded. Which turned out to be a wonderful thing when we got invited to Door County for the weekend with some friends. Let's just say that Micah's stuff was half of what we packed... and it takes a lot more planning to make sure you have everything for a baby! We did, much to some people's surprise I'm sure, get everything in the Honda Fit though! And Micah was a trooper for his first vacation - sleeping all the way up and back (a little over 2.5 hours each way). Our Door County vacation involved a lot of firsts for Micah - first vacation, first time in the car for longer than 15 minutes, first nights spent sleeping in the pack-n-play, first time watching the sunset, and most importantly - first time rolling over! That's right, Micah picked Door County as his first place to roll over - quite by accident, but all the same, it happened! It was a fun weekend, though rather exhausting. So Micah and I have taken the beginning of this week to settle back in at home and relax a little. Micah continues to be a great baby - sleeping quite a bit, eating well, and generally a happy baby. He has started to fight going to sleep sometimes, much to my dismay when it is 4 or 5 AM and I just want to go back to sleep, but that's about the worst I have to complain about, so I consider that a blessing. When he is awake, he enjoys being talked to, smiling (he smiles a lot, and it definitely seems to be a social smile), reading books, looking at contrasts, and hitting toys hanging from his activity gym. He also loves to look at himself in a mirror, whether during tummy time or diaper changes. In reality, our little man is just growing up too fast, learning new things every day!
