We're so excited for the holidays this year because last year Matt worked ALL the holidays, and this year he actually gets some time off around Thanksgiving and Christmas! That being said, Matt did work Thanksgiving Day, BUT, as soon as he got off on Friday morning we loaded the car (with Grandma Pat in tow too!) and drove to Pittsburgh to spend four days with my parents, brother, sister-in-law, and our nephews. We had a big feast on Friday evening once we were all together and spent the reaming time hanging out, shopping (Jen and I took a trip to IKEA with no children!), dinner date for the younger couples, cutting down a real Christmas tree for Nana and Grandad's house, and taking family pictures of course! We all had a blast and our family got some much needed R and R in.

The last two weeks have been pretty relaxed and uneventful. The boys and I settled into a routine of a daily morning walk with Micah riding his tricycle and me pulling Ezra in the wagon (with a pit stop by the neighborhood acorn tree to load yet more acorns into Micah's tricycle trunk) and an afternoon romp in the backyard if the weather allows. Micah has been on a construction kick (building train tracks, rocket ships, and construction vehicles) while Ezra prefers to tear all the wonderful creations apart (you can imagine how well that goes over with Micah). Of course, Ezra has also mastered crawling and is starting to cruise along furniture which gives him even easier access to everything that he wishes to destroy! Despite all this, the boys get along remarkably well and have a lot of fun together. Micah loves to "read" to Ezra (AKA recite books from memory as he turns the pages) and boss Ezra around like he's mommy ;) And Ezra just thinks everything Micah does is hilarious. Oh, and Ezra LOVES peekaboo and will initiate a game himself if he has something to hide behind. It's ridiculously cute. They're pretty awesome little boys to have around!
Ezra turned nine months old today! According to this morning's doctor's visit Ezra weighs 20 pounds, 10 ounces and is 29 inches tall (all in the 80-85th percentiles). And things are changing fast with this little dude. Just this week he got his fourth tooth. He has started to army crawl and crawl on his knees all at once. But what he really spends most of his time practicing is pulling up and trying to take steps along the furniture (or trying to climb the furniture after his brother...). This little guy just wants to be able to walk like everyone else in this house and at the rate he is going he'll accomplish that by Christmas! It's so fun to see him chase a ball around a room and just effortlessly pull up on stuff and hang out! He is also a pro at saying "da-da" and is starting to repeat some beginning word sounds when you are talking to him. His favorite thing though is (doesn't this sound familiar?) being outside, or at least getting to watch the outside world from a window or door. In fact, my go to distraction is to place him in front of the glass front door to watch the cars drive by if I need to get something done!
I ashamedly also realized that we didn't update everyone on Micah's stats at 2.5 years old (which was just under a month ago). Micah weighed 28 pounds, 2 ounces, and was 35.5 inches tall (50th percentiles) at his doctor's visit on October 10. His Casteel and Rodgers' metabolisms have already taken over and this kid eats adult meals and still is a string bean. Micah's favorite things are still trucks and trains, which is what he spends the majority of his time playing with. He also enjoys puzzles and reading (he spent 30 minutes this morning sitting in the red chair in his room reading books to himself!) When outside, he enjoys riding his tricycle all around the neighborhood. Over the weekend we got some visitors as they passed through town. Great Grandma Judy, Nana, and Grandad used our house as a meeting point for a trip they were taking so we go to see them a couple different days as they came and went. The boys enjoyed the extra attention and had a good time showing off their skills! Finally, I've been getting some inquiries from our wonderful family about Christmas and (especially Ezra) birthday ideas. As many of you have probably noticed from the pictures, Matt and I have tried to simplify the number of toys we have and are moving toward more wooden and natural materials when possible so that we will have these beautiful toys to pass on to all of our children. To help family out, I put some ideas on Amazon wish lists (links at the top of the blog). You by no means have to buy from Amazon (in fact you can mark it bought no matter where you buy it from) but this will give you an idea of what we are looking for as we try to keep our home less cluttered. Another fun idea for gifts is always "experience" gifts too. We would love an annual family pass to our local museum - Boonshoft Museum of Discovery or a gift card to our local trampoline park (Get Air) to take the boys jumping this winter. Thank you guys so much for loving on our boys! |
