Dada managed to surprise the boys on Sunday for an hour after getting in from Colorado before he had to go to work, which was fun (somehow no pictures were taken with Dada). And like that, the weekend was over and it's back to work all week for Matt. He's got a couple of hard weeks coming up, but we have a lot of fun planned for June which we are really looking forward to!
At the end of the week, Matt headed to Colorado for a job interview so my parents came for the weekend to help and keep me company. It was a bit of a rainy mess of a weekend, but we managed to get the boys to the Wild Birds Unlimited store to meet a few of the owls from Glen Helen who were there visiting and to buy a chime for our porch because the boys are rather obsessed with them. We also hit up the creek in Grant Park on the way home which, since "wah-wah" (water) is Ezra's favorite word besides truck right now, was a huge hit.

Mother's Day weekend with two boys means... going to a Big Rig Gig! Matt had to work on Saturday, so I took the boys to their dream event: a parking lot of trucks, tractors, buses, ambulances, firetrucks, police cars, etc. that they could climb into, honk the horns, and pretend to drive. It was a little overwhelming, but oh so much fun!
Sunday, Mother's Day, took a turn for the relaxing and I got to enjoy church and a lunch out with my hubby and my boys. Matt then took the boys for the afternoon so I could go shopping in peace! Wohoo! The week brought hot weather so we broke out the sunscreen and our new little pool much to the boys' delight. With the pool to cool off in we spent most of our days outside playing, walking, hiking, running... so much to do now that the weather is nice! On Friday morning I had been planning to drive to Pittsburgh bright and early, as Matt was leaving for a rogaine in VA for the weekend. Unfortunately, I ran into a bit of a snag when the spring that hauls our garage door up snapped, with my car inside the garage, and left our garage unable to be opened, mechanically or manually. So... I got to sit around with the boys waiting for a repairman instead. Fortunately we found someone to come out later that same day and fix it so we could head out mid-afternoon and still get to Pittsburgh in time for a late dinner. The weekend in Pittsburgh was a whirlwind of helping with a garage sale (and shopping some ourselves), playing at the playground, teaching Micah how to drive the battery-operated jeep (he was a very good driver!), going to a small, local zoo, and jumping at the trampoline park. Let's just say the boys slept hard all weekend and on the way home on Monday afternoon. But man did they have fun! There is something about having a bunch of cousins all around the same age running around entertaining each other. After getting home, we had to hit up the grocery store and we just happened to meet the Beavercreek Fire Department out shopping too! They were awesome and let Micah sit up in the truck. Micah and Ezra got Jr. Firefighter stickers too. Micah was SO excited!
While in Pittsburgh we had the good fortune of buying a great double jogging stroller off of a neighbor. We gave it a good bath from it's winter in the garage and have been using it daily since for a much needed Mama Workout every morning. It feels so nice to get a morning run in every morning in the cool air! Ezra also had his 15 month check-up on Tuesday and got a fabulous bill of health. He weighed 22.15 lbs (60th percentile) and is 32 3/8 in tall (90th percentile). The doctor was very taken aback when he asked how many words Ezra was saying and I informed him over 100! Hehe! (By the way, his new favorite word of the week is truck.) The weather has finally turned gorgeous and we took full advantage by going on a tour of some of the area parks over the course of the week. I definitely have to give Dayton some credit for having some wonderful (and all free!) parks. Thursday we hit up The Children's Discovery Garden with some neighborhood friends of ours. It was still a bit early in the season for the gardens to be in full swing, but we had fun at the sand tables, in the musical garden, finding the "hidden" bench, and exploring the "caves". On Saturday, the boys and I headed over to Carriage Hill Metropark to check out the farm animals. We got to see the big pigs, sheep, goats, cows, horses, and donkeys. The sheep were very friendly! Micah insisted he heard ducks and wanted to try to find them over by the lake, so we looked for them there. No luck, but they had fun walking on the docks over the water! Monday brought a day off for Matt, so we took the boys down to Caesar Creek State Park. This was a new park for us and we had a great time! It was very pretty with lots of water (big lake and lots of creeks/streams). It also has a very large dam that Micah and Matt ran down the side of for fun. Micah thought it was hilarious! Finally on Wednesday the boys and I joined a Hike it Baby (a local hiking group that hosts hikes around the city) toddler hike at Grant Park. There were lots of toddlers to hike with and the hike ended at a creek... Let's just say the boys were in heaven. Ezra just wanted to throw rocks in the creek, and Micah wanted nothing more than to swim and get sopping wet. Mission accomplished. We even got to watch a pick up truck and a front loader drive across the ford of the stream on their way to clear some of the forest. Let's just say the backseat was nice and quiet for the ride home after all of that adventure!
With all of the park adventures it's no wonder that Ezra also hit 100 words in his vocabulary this week, and is now well on his way to more. He's picking up words as quickly as he picks up trash (if anyone wants a trash helper, Ezra is your man), which is really quickly in case you were wondering. Micah, meanwhile, is learning how to "tease" and now likes to say funny phrases followed by "Mama, I'm just teasing you!" It's pretty hilarious. Between the sunshine, warm weather, and my joking/talking boys, it's been a fun week! |
