We decided to take a very last minute camping trip at nearby John Bryan this week. The weather was great for July, Micah had been begging to go, and, let's be honest, I love it it too! The boys and I got there early and set up the tent (they were great helpers!) and Dad joined us to help make dinner. Much to Micah's delight, Dada taught him how to roast his very own hot dog over the campfire (Ezra sat patiently at the table waiting to devour his food). After dinner and clean-up, we made s'mores (Ezra's first time eating one and he ditched the marshmallow in favor of the chocolate and graham cracker, haha!). Bed time got pushed back quite a bit. Despite begging to go to bed, we quickly learned that the boys had really just wanted to play in the tent... so after failed attempts at bedtime and a successful firefly hunt, the boys crashed when it got dark. The next morning we had breakfast, cleaned up camp, hiked, and then ate a picnic lunch before heading home for some very long naps! We'll definitely be going again... but maybe when it gets dark just a bit earlier? :)

On Sunday the boys and I drove to Indianapolis to pick up Grandma Pat and bring her to our house for the week. The boys loved having a visitor, and she loved visiting a different park each day of her stay. We even introduced her to some of our friends! On Friday, Nana and Grandad came to join the fun for the weekend as well. It was nice timing because Matt was on a long series of night shifts, so the company was most welcome! While the boys are enjoying our visitors, they also seem to continue to love to grow and change. Ezra is using sentences to talk some already (how is he so big??) and loves practicing stair climbing at every park we go to. He is expanding his reading to books that are not necessarily just about vehicles with wheels (he loves "I Spy", books about the moon, and Curious George now too). Finally, he has really taken to work in the kitchen (carrying in and putting away groceries, cooking, unloading the dishwasher, and setting the table).
Micah is still in the "why" stage and the telling me everything in his life stage. He has recently taken to building his own train tracks and making really long trains to drive on them. He also has started creating his own art using pens, stickers, stamps, paint, and crayons. He used to like to draw and paint when he was 2, but he really hadn't shown any interest in the last 6 months. He is very opinionated these days and keeps me on my toes! After the Rodgers left, it was time to head to Stilesville for the family reunion on Grandma Pat's side of the family. We wanted to see all the family we could though, so we stayed with Grandma Judy and spent the day with her on Saturday. She has a great neighborhood pool that she treated us all to when we got there. The boys had a good time, as usual when water is involved. We spent Sunday at the old family farm playing and visiting with everyone who came. Then on Monday, Grandad, Micah, and I participated in the family canoe trip while Nana and Grandma Pat took a hike and played in the creek with Ezra. The boys had a great time, but we were sorry Dada couldn't join us!
The rest of the week was spent cleaning, relaxing, and hanging out with Dada. Friday, Matt and I took the boys to the Discovery Museum to get out of the heat, and Saturday the boys and I had a private pool party and picnic in the backyard to stave off the heat. This was a birthday, 4th of July, family get-together kind of week! Grandma, Grandpa, and Aunt Caroline came to spend a few days with us over the holiday (Aunt Meredith came for an evening too!). We spent a lot of time in the water (splash pad and the pool), but managed to squeeze in a few other fun things and a birthday celebration. Matt and I are now both in our last year of our 20's. 30 is coming fast! The boys had a blast with all of the extra attention from our visitors and took advantage of having so many laps to curl up and read their favorite books with whoever they could snag to read with them. We don't read at all in this house... (see pictures below for evidence). We had a great time!
