Saturday brought Matt home, finally, from Maine. Micah wasn't quite sure about Dad for a bit after his month away. but quickly settled on liking him again as we spent the rest of the weekend getting used to being a family of three again. Micah especially enjoyed grilling and basketball outside with Dad on Sunday night.
Grandma and Grandpa Rodgers came to spend the week with us this week. Micah loved spending time walking all around the city with them and their dog Kali. Mom loved all the extra help with dinner, cleaning, and the yard! ;) Micah is slowly changing his screaming over to "singing" (it at least sounds much more melodious) and has started to laugh a lot more. No tooth yet, though we can see it just below the gum still! However, Micah's lack of teeth has not stopped him from wanting to grab food to put in his mouth. Unfortunately for Micah, Mom has refused to let him get any food in his mouth just yet. Micah will mimic chewing and will also hold a fork or spoon and pretend to put food up to his mouth though! It's adorable :)

Our little boy has found his voice... he screeching voice that is. It seems that every week brings something new and this week is no exception. Micah has now decided screeching is an awesome way to make noise and hear himself and so enjoys making his screeching noises frequently (and at decibels only dogs can hear). Micah got to hang out with Nana all week, and she just loved to hear it... all day...every day.... However, since Micah thinks it is fun, I don't think we'll hear the end of it anytime soon! Micah's other new trick for the week is his scrunchy face. He has started scrunching his face all up with this silly grin on his face. SOOOO funny! Not sure where he got the idea from, but I'm enjoying the face immensely.
Micah spent most of the week with Nana, while I worked my first 5 day week of the year. So while I am busying hoping Micah stops growing so fast, he continues to decide to become a big boy. This week, he decided he is too old for the infant car seat in the stroller and likes it much better if he is strapped in the big seat facing forward. He also is getting way too good at sitting up and pushing around on the floor - mostly backwards or around in a circle (though he did go forward once for Nana!) Grandad joined in the family fun on Thursday evening, and he and Nana brought Micah to school to see my students this year for the first time on Friday. Micah stayed with me after school for a meeting and sat listening very attentively in my lap. The teachers in the meeting joked that he had better eye contact and listening skills towards the speaker than their students did! He was a very well-behaved little boy. On Saturday, Micah and I decided to join Nana and Grandad at the outlet mall for some shopping before they headed home. Micah and I both walked out with a couple of things for ourselves :) Then, Grandma and Grandpa Rodgers joined us late on Saturday evening and spent Sunday learning the ropes of Micah's schedule for their week with him. So far, Micah has really enjoyed their dog Kali (and thinks her barking is hysterical) and the balloon they brought him to play with (he loves to shake it). More updates next week on their week with him! Being Labor Day weekend, Micah and I got an extra day together on Monday to hang out. Then Micah spent the week hanging out with Nana during the day while I went to school to continue getting to know my 3rd graders this year. I'm finding that it's rather fun to have been in the school for 4 years now, because this is the first year that I have previous students in every class above me (4th-6th grades). That means I have lots of students to say hi to and get hugs from throughout the day (and many younger siblings who have heard all about me!). Many of them also ask about Micah, and some still come to see me each morning before the day starts! Once the day is over though, I rush home to hold and play with Micah for the rest of the evening before he heads to bed around 7 PM. We're both missing Dad (Matt) quite a bit so we have been face-timing him often in the evenings.
Our weekends continue to be filled with lots of outdoors and shopping time in between naps, so this past weekend was no exception. We took walks on both Saturday and Sunday, as well as stocked up on some clothes at Carter's and Gap (mostly gifts from Nana and Grandad). Micah is continuing to change rapidly each week. He is getting steadier and can now sit quite well with just a little support to keep from tipping too much. He is also getting more coordinated and can pick things up quite well. And, Nana's favorite... Micah has started to enjoy his own voice - screeching especially! The big news though is that his first tooth is starting to come in! We can see the white tooth and feel it just starting to push up on the gum. We're just waiting for it to finally break through! Of course this has come with less sleep and more wakings throughout the night, but it's a little more cuddle time with my little man! Since Matt is away for the month, our families have graciously decided to take turns spending time with Micah and I as we adjust to work/being without mom. So this week Micah's great grandparents came to spend time with us and watch Micah during the day. All the wonderful pictures are courtesy of them. So while I spent the week getting to know my students, and Matt spent the week getting used to his new location and expectations in Maine, Micah got to know his great grandparents. Great Grandma and Grandpa Rodgers kept Micah all during the week - taking walks, swinging, playing with all of his toys - and loved every minute of it (or so they tell me). In the meantime, they spoiled me too by cooking dinner for me every night, cleaning around the house, and even going grocery shopping!
Micah handled the changes like a champ. He started sleeping through the night (10.5-11 hours with no waking up!) at the beginning of the week. He is learning to play peek-a-boo and patty-cake (courtesy of the great grandparents). And he is trying to give hugs and kisses (sort of) when mom gets home (he's so stinkin' cute). Micah also loves to watch people eat food, especially if it is crunchy (morning cereal is the best!) and basically eats us out of house and breastmilk. He also is becoming increasing fascinated with the i-pad now that we use it to talk to Dad in Maine, though he seems to have a bit of confusion as to why the i-pad sounds like his Dad, but doesn't look like him. Mom is just grateful to have made it through a week, and is very much enjoying a few days at home with Micah. The weekend also brought another changing of the Micah watchers - my parents are back! We spent the weekend going on walks and getting some stuff done around the house - and of course taking pictures of Micah! |
