After lunch the boys got to ride on a carousel for the first time with Grandma on the same carousel her boys (Matt and Trent) used to ride on when they were little boys in Indy. Riding on the horses that went up and down was a big hit! We ended the day in the Playscape area which is a magical indoor playground/exploration center for kids. Micah spent a solid 90 minutes climbing around the climbing structure with no end in sight before we finally had to leave. We met Aunts Meredith and Caroline for dinner and a quick hangout at Meredith's apartment before we headed home. I heard "I want to go back to the museum!" until the boys fell asleep on the ride home!
On Saturday we took a day trip to Indianapolis to meet Grandma for a day at the Children's Museum. And boy did we have fun! Micah could have spent an entire day at each exhibit, so we had to encourage him to go see something else after he got time to try each thing (first he didn't want to leave the archaeological dig, then he didn't want to get off the train, and after that he wanted to stay on the flight simulator, and the day ended with him saying he was staying on the climbing structure forever, lol). It was really cool though, because a lot of stuff that we saw reinforced some of the books we have been reading at home so we were able to make connections with stuff he already knew. The flight simulator, for example, talked about balancing the four forces on a plane (thrust, drag, lift, and weight) when you design your plane so that it will fly. Micah has been really interested in flight lately so we had already been reading books about that at home, so he knew just how to build a plane to make it work. Of course after that he wanted to try all the "what if?" scenarios to see what would happen if he changed different aspects of the plane. I would have liked for him to be able to stay on there all day too!

After a lot of cold and rain it finally cleared out for some nice afternoon hikes! We went to Quarry Park a couple of times because the boys absolutely love to climb on the rocks. Matt also spent some time giving Micah some more chess lessons during Ezra's nap time, which Micah in turn gave Ezra the following morning, lol. A neighbor cut down a couple of trees and gave us some logs to put in our yard for climbing, jumping, and playing with trucks on/around. It seems to be a hit thus far! The boys have been taking swim lessons this fall too, and enjoy practicing their back floats in the tub. So cute! This past weekend Nana and Grandad came back to stay with the boys while Matt and I took a long day trip up to Michigan for our first rogaine TOGETHER. We've been trying to do one for years but between pregnancies and other commitments it just never worked out. Matt is a veteran at these, but it was my first one, and I had a blast! Learning to navigate turned out to be pretty intuitive with my excellent teacher (Matt), and we managed to cover 23.5 miles in just under 8 hours! I could barely walk by the end (or the next day for that matter), but I would love to do one again sometime!
October has brought even more time with friends and family, which we are loving! We spent the first weekend of October in Cleveland visiting medical school friends (our annual trip for Drs. Matt and Dan to do a rogaine together). The kids all played great together, and I got in some girl time with Jackie.
When we got home we realized the weather was turning cold for good a little earlier than we had hoped, and so we decided to squeak one last night of camping in. The boys even swam in the lake! When we got home we went to the pumpkin patch with friends and brought some home to decorate. The second weekend of October we attempted to have a garage sale but with the onset of the VERY cold weather it was a complete flop. Matt decided to turn things around and take advantage of his father-son time to build a rocket with the boys. It was really cool and the boys had so much fun building and setting it off. October has also brought on fierce independence by Ezra in EVERYTHING. "By self" is his new motto and if you don't let him do it his way or help when help is unwanted (basically all the time), then watch out. Mr. Tantrum comes in swinging for a long while. It's been an adjustment for sure. Don't get me wrong, some of the independence is great. He sets and clears the table, help make meals, practices putting on his own shoes, socks, and coat... but when he refuses to cooperate for diaper changes or to get dressed....every day... it gets a little old. It's a good thing he's really cute and still loves snuggles ;) Aside from independence, Ezra loves to make and play with food in his pretend kitchen, "read" books, and play with trucks and trains. Oh, and he loves to sing and dance! He will frequently come and ask me to put on music so he can dance when we are home. So cute! He is talking in complete sentences all day now, so he is very good at making sure you understand him! Micah has hit the imaginary play stage and can play with trucks, plastic animals, or his brother for long periods of time now while narrating the imaginary story they are playing out. He is also intensely interested in two things: flight and being a doctor. We have been reading countless books on both topics from the library and learning why he can's fly just flapping his arms (not for lack of trying!) and also about ways he can help people. He has even made up a name for himself when he is in his doctor role: Dr. John! We have no idea where he got the name from, but he insists Ezra let Dr. John take care of his boo-boos, lol! When not playing, doctoring, or trying to fly, Micah can be found "working" in his notebook. This involves writing letters (typically his and Ezra's names) and putting stickers on the pages. He is very serious about it and spreads his "work" out over the entire couch! It really is fun to be home with the two of them all day as they each work through their current developmental stages. And I always have good stories to tell Matt when he gets home from work. Matt has been attempting to tell me interesting stories from his work in return, but we're starting to realize that Micah is listening in very closely to those stories and has now started offering to help Matt with various patient scenarios. It really is a wonder what that boy picks up! The last weekend we traveled home to Newburgh for what was supposed to be our 10 year class reunion. The reunion itself was an epic fail since hardly anyone ended up coming, but we still had a great time visiting family and friends in Newburgh! The boys enjoyed romping around both Grandma and Grandpa's and Great Grandma and Grandpa's neighborhoods, as well as getting in a final outdoor swim for the season. Great Grammy was visiting from Florida as well, so we got to see her, Great Aunt Gayle, and Nana for an afternoon! We also attended part of a Castle High School football game which involved a lot of fireworks (much to Micah's excitement). Matt and I took the boys on a tour of the high school before the game and that was quite a walk down memory lane!
