Then we got visitors and packed our house to the max when our cousins came to town! Nana, my sister-in-law Jen, and I took all of the boys to the splashpad, Wegerzn Gardens, and the Air Force Museum. They had so much fun playing together and Micah was very sad to see them go. He keeps asking for Jack, Seth, and Aunt Jen.
What a fun-filled couple of weeks! The boys and I spent the week of July 17th going on hikes, joining other little boys for play dates, and spending a lot of time in our backyard. Matt was able to join us for a hike in the nearby state park one day, and we joined our local Hike It Baby group for a morning hike and creek wading another morning. Micah and I have spent afternoons harvesting tomatoes and peppers from our garden. And of course we spend a lot of time playing in our backyard. Micah has decided he likes the "big boy swing" while Ezra has decided he likes to be bounced a little on the trampoline. Ezra is also starting to sit up pretty steadily when he has a back rest and for short periods on his own when he's feeling super strong. We also spend our days singing a lot. Micah's current favorites to sing to the household in general are the ABC's, Home on the Range, and Twinkle Little Star. Ezra's current favorite activity is to roll onto his back as soon as I put him down on his belly... so much for belly time! Aunt Jen, Jack, and Seth had to go meet other family for the weekend a couple of hours away, but Grandad and Aelfa came to join Nana for the weekend with us. We went hiking, grilled in the backyard, and Micah got drill lessons from Grandad so that he can assemble his own toy airplane now! (and take it apart, and put it back together... repeat) It was great to have the visitors for the week because Matt has been gone in Montana at a conference, so it was a welcome distraction and some much appreciated extra help since Micah seems to be taking Dada being gone pretty hard. Fortunately he's due to return tomorrow!

What a relaxing couple of weeks! After having been on the road a lot, we spent the last 2 weeks at home hanging out with friends, playing, and just enjoying our house! Ezra is now a big 5 months old and growing up so fast! He loves to "talk" to the family (also known as screeching), stand, bounce, laugh at anything Micah does, and "butt scoot" around the house (he lifts his butt of the floor with his legs and pushes so he slides on his back backwards). He also has to be involved in anything Micah is doing, so if Micah is playing with cars/trucks, Ezra wants one to play with too. If Micah is mowing, Ezra wants to get in on the action. Ironically enough, this seems to be a two way street; Micah wants to do everything Ezra is doing too! If Ezra is in the bouncer, Micah has to play with it too. If Ezra is chewing on a toy, so is Micah.... Mama is having a lot of fun with "brotherly love" already. Thank goodness they do actually show the love quite often too. They both love to give each other hugs and lay next to each other and laugh. Too cute.
Micah is also growing up way too fast. In the last couple of weeks he has become fully day potty trained. I'm back down to only one child in diapers (Micah does still wear a diaper at night, but that's it). Micah has also started to read books aloud to Ezra or Mama or Dada and sings us songs too! As many of you probably know, Micah likes to be a helper around the house and he really likes to try to vacuum, but my vacuum was just too big for him to handle. So I got some suggestions from other moms and bought him a lightweight vacuum which has been perfect! He loves to vacuum up messes for me with it. He loves to help with dishes too, so I wash and he rinses most of our dishes. I'm just so lucky to have such a big helper, and I know Ezra will want to join in the fun when he is a little bigger too. I can already hear it: "I want to vacuum!", followed by: "But I want to use it too!" ;) Finally, we've been investigating what looked like strabismus in Micah's left eye, but as of today he has been diagnosed with Brown Syndrome in his right eye. His right eye muscle is very tight and he is unable to look straight up. He tries so hard to make the eye look that his left ends up overshooting and goes too far up, making the left eye look very odd when really it's the right eye with the problem. As of now we are just going to watch it, and unless it worsens the eye will be left alone because it does not affect his ability to see, he'll just have to use his neck to lean back and look up more, since his eye can't look as far up as it normally would be able to. He's been a champ at the eye doctor's as we've visited several times to figure out the problem. In fact, he thinks he's pretty hot stuff sitting up on the exam chair now, haha. Time for another birthday! This time it was my turn to turn another year older. Nana and Grandad came back for another weekend to celebrate and bring me a cake since Matt has been busy working. My mom made the cake and my wonderful SIL did the decorating. Delicious and beautiful! As my birthday present, my mom took me (and Ezra came along) on a shopping spree at the outlet mall for a much needed wardrobe revamp, and Grandad hung out with Micah back at home. It was a good day for all, and I am so excited for my new clothes!
The rest of the weekend was spent having fun outside with bubbles, the sprinkler, and Aelfa (Alex's dog who is staying with Nana and Grandad for the summer). The other big news in the family is that Micah is potty training!!! He spent the whole week in underwear with only a few accidents after the first day. He still wears a diaper at night and for nap, but he is learning really fast. He really likes his big boy undies, and he's needed no motivation to learn. Micah is also learning to "read". He has memorized most of the books in our house and will "read" the books with you by finishing the sentences on the pages. It's so cool to see how much he knows and has memorized from all of our family reading. And let's not forget Ezra who is now rolling regularly, getting really interested in watching us all eat, and thinks Micah is the best person in the whole family. He loves to watch Micah play and attempt to participate, and Micah in turn loves to have Ezra around and hugs him throughout the day. These two boys bring so much joy to our life! |
