Nana made some confetti filled eggs that the boys got to crack and confetti flew everywhere; that was a hit! And the sand box was a new phenomenon that Micah enjoyed. His Uncle Jon taught him how to balance on his balance board, and we took a trip to Living Treasures, a petting zoo nearby that the boys love to visit and feed the animals at. Ezra spent his time getting lots of cuddles from everyone. Micah also mastered a scooter in Pittsburgh, so we may need to get one of those for neighborhood walks...
After Easter Sunday, I took the boys to Pittsburgh while Matt had a hard week of work so that we could spend some time with their Great Grammy, cousins, aunt, uncle, and grandparents. As usual when you get four boys together that are 3 and under, it was an adventure! The three oldest all had a blast playing together, while Ezra just slept much of the time. Those big boys wear you out!

The warm weather is awesome, and we are making the most of it! We've gone to Oakes Quarry Park a couple of times this week (since it's so close to our house), and Micah loves to play in the rocks. We went and spent just an hour sitting at the rock pile (well I sat or stood nearby while Micah climbed, threw, buried, and played in the rocks). We have also been enjoying the backyard to the fullest!
The week has also brought a big boy change to Micah - he is sleeping in his twin bed now! To be honest, I was dreading this transition so much. Micah had been spending so much time playing in his crib instead of napping that I thought there was no way he was going to stay in his twin bed. But thanks to some helpful advice from my sister-in-law, the transition went really smoothly and Micah has not once gotten out of bed AND is going to sleep much faster for naps. Let's just say they make these cute little clocks that you program to be yellow when it is sleep time and green when it is time to get up. Micah LOVES it and is so excited to wake up and see his green clock. You can also hear him chatting over the monitor as he falls asleep "get up when green!" Ezra is also getting "bigger" in the sense that he is now starting to grab hold of toys and pull them to his mouth. He is also putting his fingers and attempting to put his fists in his mouth as well. And we had a successful belly time (for 5 minutes) where he wasn't crying the whole time! He also seems to really like meal times, as he watches us eat with a big smile at almost every meal. We concluded the week with the Easter celebration. Matt actually got Easter off, making it extra special that we got to attend church together, share Easter baskets, and have an egg hunt with the boys. We dyed Easter eggs for the egg hunt for the first time with Micah, and he thought that was pretty fun. He wasn't quite sure what to make of the egg hunt at first, but he got the idea pretty quickly. Of course his favorite thing was the chocolate bunny! Spring finally arrived just in time for Micah's 2nd birthday! We got out as a family the week before Micah's birthday and took a nice hike at Glen Helen Nature Preserve. Ezra slept the whole time per usual but Micah had a blast, especially riding on Dada's shoulders to cross the stream! Don't worry, Ezra made it safely riding in his carrier, but it was a little tricky not being able to see your feet! To clean up, the boys had their first bath together, and Micah thought he was hot stuff getting to help rinse the soap off of Ezra. Ezra just liked kicking in the water - it was very serious business (see the picture above for reference).
Nana and Grandad arrived for a second weekend of birthday fun! We made pancakes, had more cake, and outfitted our backyard for the warm weather! Grandad spent most of his Saturday assembling the new swing and slide playset for Micah. Micah had a good time watching and playing on unused equipment. Micah got a Kitchen Helper from Nana and Grandad so he can get involved in the cooking, which he loves to do! He also got new blocks, some books, and more puzzles to play with. Once the playset was complete, we moved the trampoline around back too for the ultimate play area. I'm so excited to have so much to do right outside our door! On Micah's official birthday on Monday, April 10, both he and Ezra had their check-ups at the doctor's (the 2 year check-up for Micah and the 2 month check-up for Ezra). Micah officially weighs in at 24.4 pounds (50th percentile) and is 34 and 1/8 inches tall (40th percentile). Ezra weighs in at 12 pounds, 14 ounces (56th percentile) and is 24 and 3/16 inches long (90th percentile). Both boys are healthy and strong! And, fortunately, Micah only had to get one shot on his birthday, but poor Ezra had to get 5! Let's just say they were both pretty pathetic leaving the doctor's office, one in each of mommy's arms. Micah made a quick recovery, but Ezra ended up with a bit of a fever and had to take some Tylenol to ease the pain. But Ezra was great by the next day, so he bounced back like a champ! In developmental updates, Micah is talking unbelievably well, and loves to repeat phrases from his favorite books during play still. He also likes to imitate the work that mom does around the house. So when I'm cooking, he likes to help me or cook in his kitchen. When I vaccum, he gets the "gogo" (the roller that the carseat sits on to roll around the airport) and pushes it around. And when I'm doing laundry, he likes to talk to me about what I'm doing and "help". Let's just say it is so nice to be able to stay home all day and have the time that Micah can help with all of the work, because we're in no hurry. And let's not overlook the fact that Ezra is 2 months old now and is also developing new habits! He loves to smile, especially at Mama's voice. He is starting to prefer facing out at times so he can see around him. And he ALMOST has a little giggle he does when he gets really excited. He has developed a liking to water as well and likes to kick in the bathtub. Finally, he is starting to sleep a little longer at night, so I'm usually just getting up for one feeding in the early hours of the morning. Micah is almost 2! Where has the time gone??? Before Grandma, Grandpa, and Aunt Caroline arrived to celebrate, I had the boys for a few more days on my own at the beginning of the week. The weather finally turned gorgeous, so we got outside to enjoy it! We had a picnic and set up our new tent to play in for fun. Micah also got his car out and drove it around the driveway in his sunglasses. Unfortunately, the terrible twos seem to be upon Micah, and we definitely had some rough patches leading up to our visitors. Let's just say, Mama was ready for some back-up help when the grandparents and aunt arrived!
In celebration of Micah getting older, he got to move from his high chair to his "big boy chair" (booster seat) at the table with Mama and Dada, just in time to celebrate! Caroline and I made Micah a Thomas themed cake, and Grandma decorated the house to celebrate. Grandma and Grandpa got Micah a trampoline which Micah LOVED! Jump, jump! Micah also got some puzzles from his aunts and uncle and an easel from Aunt Jen and Uncle Jon. So exciting and sad at the same time to be putting away some old toys and bringing in the new. We also took everyone to visit the Air Force Museum and to explore the state park while they were here visiting. Micah loved the adventures and in true baby fashion, Ezra slept through most of them! Things quieted down after our visitors returned home, but Micah has had lots of things to occupy his time! We have gone and jumped on the trampoline every day, multiple times a day (which has resulted in Micah falling asleep more quickly for naps!). Micah is also channeling his inner artist and coloring and using stamps at his easel. The extra attention also seems to have helped Micah's behavior, as he is back to the loving, gentle boy I know! |
