My parents and Matt's parents helped us pack, load, and unload (thank goodness!). They then headed home to let us settle in and get unpacked at our own pace. And that's what we did.... unpack, unpack, and flatten boxes. Micah helped for a couple of days, but after that I finished up during nap times, as Micah was a little over it. Instead, when he was awake, we started to explore our new state. We found the library (and got our first library card!), the local park (with a splash pad), the grocery stores, the YMCA, and the bank. Matt also started orientation for his residency a couple of days after we got here, so he was busy learning about a whole new program and getting old... we celebrated his 27th birthday in our new home!
My parents came back for a long weekend and helped us finish hanging pictures. We also got to visit one of the local state parks and try out a potential new church. I think the best part might be that we found an amazing little water park that is perfect for Micah, and he loves it! We will definitely be hitting it up this summer! The state park and the water park events were picnics for Matt's residency program, so I got to meet some of the other residents' spouses and children. Hopefully Micah and I can make some friends so we don't get too sick of each other this year!
Finally, a friend of mine came to visit from college this week, Jessie, and we went and explored the Air Force Museum with her. We got to walk through four old presidential planes, and a couple of other planes, as well as look at old missiles and spacecraft. Matt also had some time off, so he came swimming with Micah and I at the YMCA. Micah loved it and is getting more and more comfortable in the water, which is fun to see.
