Micah is thriving and loving life. He weighs 17 lb 10 oz (47th percentile), is 27.25 in tall (68th percentile), and has a head circumference of 17 in (32nd percentile). He is able to sit up on his own (when he doesn't decide to throw all of his weight backward) and enjoys talking continually. He is always learning new sounds and new noises to make with his mouth. He also enjoys being upside down for brief moments (new perspective on the world?). His current favorite songs are the "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and the "ABC song" which are sung regularly when he is mad that he has to get a diaper change. Finally, he is continuing to eat dinner with Matt and I, and occasionally breakfast too. His favorite food at the moment seems to be yogurt, but he is willing to try anything as long as he is not left out of the meal (he gets very upset when he has to watch everyone else eat).
Well, it's been two weeks, so let's get caught up! Last weekend, we took Micah to get some 6 month pictures done at Target and this weekend Grandad came to visit us! We played some disc golf with Grandad on Saturday, and of course cheered the Colt's on both weekends. The weeks have been a bit of a blur as Matt has been scheduling interviews for residency programs, interviewing, and finishing up his rotation for this month. I have been conducting parent-teacher conferences for all 24 of my students and trying to stay on top of the never ending grading. Being hands on parents and working full time is proving to be one tough job for Matt and I!

Micah turned 6 months old this week! To celebrate, we got Micah his first car! (wait, is that supposed to be at 16..???) Micah loves moving around the driveway or honking his horn at us. This kid loves being outside in general, so any toy that allows him to do that is a winner. We also took him to Marshfield, WI to visit some friends of ours who moved there for residency. On Saturday, we dressed him up as a sock-monkey to go trick-or-treating at the zoo with his friends Ellie and Evie (he's a ladies man, what can we say?). And on Sunday he got to go to a fall festival in Marshfield and bounce and play in the leaves (he loved both). He also got to spend the weekend getting plenty of hugs and kisses from Evie (20 months old). And of course his big life-changing event - starting solids! Mom and Dad finally let Micah start eating off of their plates, which he is IN LOVE with. He tried strawberry, cantaloupe, cheese, celery, and apple-mango sauce on Saturday, and apples on Sunday. He mostly just sucks or chews and then spits the food out, but he is eating a little and thinks it is great fun! In other news, while in Marshfield, Matt and I got to babysit for about 90 minutes, and so we got to practice bring parents of three children. We survived with flying colors, managing to feed all three children, change them, and put one of them to sleep! Evie even had so much fun with Micah while in Marshfield, that she has been going around the house declaring that she misses Micah for the past several days. Guess we're going back! In developmental updates, Micah can sit by himself for short periods when he chooses to, but he would much prefer to be on his belly trying to crawl. He has become part kangaroo, and loves to bounce no matter where he is or who is holding him. He is able to say many of his vowel sounds, but we are still working on some. He loves singing and thinks dancing is absolutely hysterical. He also enjoys daycare and is reported as being "happy and playful" on an almost daily basis. And of course he loves to try foods. We can't believe it's already been a half of a year with this kid! Lots of new and exciting things this week for Micah! On Monday, Micah started daycare and seems to be loving it! He smiles more than any baby Roxanne (the woman who watches him) has ever seen, and has been quite happy most of the week. It took some adjusting to get him to take naps there, but we think we've got him settled in now. However, all the excitement at daycare leaves Micah tuckered out even with naps, and Micah often falls asleep in the car on the way home and takes a short third nap just so he can stay awake until his 7 PM bedtime.
Matt and I have also let Micah suck on a couple of pieces of food at dinner this week since he loves watching us eat food, just so he can get used to some tastes (he doesn't actually eat any of it). So he sucked on a bit of an apple (wasn't really thrilled with that taste), a lime (puckered up horribly but then went back for more), a piece of lettuce (thought it was fun to tear up), and had a breastmilk popsicle which he also thought was fun to suck on, but ultimately just spit out the juice and small chunks he chomped off. We're looking forward to really letting him dig in with some food once he turns 6 months at the end of next week! Micah also got a new bathtub from his Aunt Jen that we tried out this week, now that he is too big for his old one. We think he loves it, but his reaction is a bit crazy. So far every night when we put him in it he splashes like a maniac for however long he is in there. And not like a smiling, playful splash, but with a very serious face and very intense splashing of his arms and legs. But he gets excited every time we prepare for a bath, so he must like it! Micah has really warmed up to having Dad back, and now likes to watch everything Matt does at home, and gets excited to play with him. This weekend we took Micah walking at Whitnall Park. Fall has arrived in full force (highs have been in the 60's all week), so we all bundled up a bit and went exploring. Micah and Matt also checked out the kids play area, and of course Micah loved it all - doesn't everyone love to be outside!? We also started making fires at home in the evenings, and we are just loving the cozy feeling of having our little family back together as Matt and I watch Micah grow and learn so fast. |
