On Saturday, the whole family got up at 3 AM to load into the car and drive 45 minutes to Kettle Moraine State Park for Matt's first attempt to complete a 100k trail race. Micah's and I's job was to meet him at various aid stations to deliver supplies and encourage Dad along. So Micah and I drove around the state park all day doing just that. For the most part, Micah handled it really well. He slept most of the morning, just like he does at home. We made him his own play/diaper change station in the back of the car that we hung out by a lot of the day. Micah did start to fall apart a bit in the afternoon, mainly because of his refusal to take a nap. However, that meant he fell asleep in his car seat for the night before Dad finished the race, slept all the way home, and slept through the transfer to his crib. He was zonked! Matt and I laughed at him a little because he's asleep for the start of the race and the end of the race. Matt did get to see him awake in the middle of the race though!
Sunday was recovery day for everyone. Matt limped around the house nursing his sore legs and blistered feet. Micah was a bit off due to such a long day the day before, and I was tired from taking are of them both!
Monday Micah and I went back to school for a meeting I wanted to be a part of. Micah was a little angel and just sat in my lap the whole time, despite the blistering heat of the no air-conditioned building. He then got to meet a few of the teachers he missed on Friday. After that I took him to the grocery store. Micah appears to have developed a love of stores. We went to Wal-Mart over the weekend, and Woodman's on Monday, and both trips he just looks around and around at all of the stuff. No matter how tired he is, he will rub his eyes and refuse to sleep. And then he falls asleep as soon as we leave (or in the check-out line). Poor Micah just doesn't want to miss anything!
In other Micah news, he has finally started to go to sleep a little earlier - falling asleep between 8 and 9:30 at night now. He also has started to sleep for a long chunk of 7-8 hours before waking to feed for the first time. He'll then go right back to bed for another 2-3 hour chunk. After that... he takes a lot of naps. Often a couple in the morning and a couple in the afternoon. In fact, I've started to feel that I barely seem him awake when he isn't eating the last couple of days! He does fight naps a bit, especially in the afternoon, but the rubbing of the eyes and yawning give the poor guy away. When he is awake, he likes to be held face out now, so he can see everything. He also loves to stand; he is able to support all of his own weight, he just needs someone for balance. Micah enjoys listening to lots of sounds, so toys that make various sounds are his favorite right now. He can even grab toys, blankets, and anything else he can fit his fingers around! Finally, he has started to drool a lot and chew on anything in front of him (including blankets, toys, and the arms, shoulders, and fingers of mom and dad), so we're a little worried we might get an early teether!
