With promising nice weather on Monday, we decided to get really adventuresome and try a 12 mile hike with the whole family (Nana and Grandad too) to the largest dinosaur track site in North America, which is about 2 hours away from here in the middle of nowhere. We brought snacks, our lunches, and lots of water as we hiked through a canyon to the tracks along a river that runs through the canyon. In the process we passed old homestead sites, an old mission with a cemetery, and some petroglyphs carved into the rocks. The tracks were primarily from two dinosaurs, the Apatosaurus and the Allosaurus, and you could follow their tracks as if you were right there with them. We all had a blast imagining living with the dinosaurs, took a long lunch break, and played in the river before we hiked back out of the canyon. The boys surpassed all expectations with Micah hiking about 8 of the 12 miles and Ezra hiking about 5 throughout the day (with minimal whining!). Ruth did not hike any, but she was a very agreeable hiking partner who was very content to watch and hang out with everyone the whole day. We ended the day with pizza carry out and Ezra letting us know that he wasn't sure he liked all day hikes, haha!
After some last minute shift changes thanks to a slow ER, we ended up spending the weekend home as a family (Matt was originally supposed to work). We took advantage of the extra time together to do some fun projects. Matt and the boys made a LEGO gadget hand mixer together and we all worked on making some slime projects with the boys' slime kit from Aunt Meredith. Since Ruth couldn't get in on the project action, she took the extra time to practice her climbing skills on our pikler and has now mastered climbing up and back down all on her own!
